The temperatures are rising and you're ready to say goodbye to old man winter.
Clean your winter sports equipment before storing
It's time to put your skis and snowboards away for the season. Make sure you clean, thoroughly dry, wax and cover them so they are ready to pull out and use next year.
- Clean with a soft towel, organic cleanser and water, letting it dry completely.
- Apply a thick coat of wax to prevent rust from forming.
- Use gear bags (available at sporting goods stores) to properly cover your equipment.
Storing winter clothing
Clean or dry clean everything thoroughly before packing it away. Collect your hats, scarves and mittens and put like items together in a sturdy plastic container. Again, plastic is preferable. Use the color-coded labeling system to maintain organization. Sweaters, coats or blankets, especially those made of wool, should include an organic moth-deterrent in the container. Keep boots and winter shoes in a separate bin.
- Store long winter coats on hangers in a garment bag or a wardrobe box. (Look for these at a big box store.)
If you prepare your out-of-season clothing for safe storage, your wardrobe will be ready to wear next winter when you retrieve it from your unit.
