Which items are worth storing?
When deciding what to put in your Mini-Mac Storage Unit, here are some points to consider. If you answer "yes" to two or more of the following questions, then we recommend you make room for it in your unit.
- Will you or a family member ever need it again?
- Is it in good condition?
- Is it high quality and durable?
- Is it expensive?
- Does it have sentimental value?
- Is it difficult to find or replace?
How do I prepare my items for storage?
Create an inventory list. Disassemble larger pieces of furniture or items to reduce the risk of damage in your unit. Thoroughly wash, dust, clean and dry any items prior to storage. Wrap fragile items, sensitive electronics and artwork. Place items up off the floor on wooden pallets and label all boxes with a color-coded system. Keep like items in specific zones of your unit.
Which types of boxes should I use?
Use strong boxes that are dry and clean. We recommend that you buy new boxes that do not have old remnants of food or grease stains (these can attract pests). Using like-sized boxes makes them easy to stack. Also consider clear plastic bins, which are sturdy and waterproof.
How can I pack my unit efficiently?
We recommend that you cover the floor with canvas tarp or plastic sheeting. This material will act as a barrier between the floor and stored items. Keep your items raised and up off of the floor with wooden pallets. Store furniture in the way it is used in your home (for example, couches horizontally rather than vertically). Do not put sharp items on soft upholstered furniture. Stack heavier items/boxes on the bottom and do not stack too high.
