Although Mini-Mac's 24-hour surveillance provides peace of mind, adding more security with a lock on your unit is a good idea.
Keep your information private.
Be mindful of who you share access to your unit with. Only allow those you trust into your storage unit or admittance to your unit. You keep some of your most valuable possessions, such as family heirlooms and expensive equipment, in your unit and you need to safe proof it.
Purchase a reinforced lock.
Buy a strong, high-quality lock to fully secure your unit. This is not a place to consider a flimsy, easy to pick or drill lock. Any old lock won't do. Consider a weather-resistant, heavy-duty padlock or disc lock. Combination locks are the easiest to tamper with or break.
What to look for? The core should be resistant to picking and the shroud should prevent cutting. A "shrouded shackle" lock is where the U-shaped bar is partly covered by the body of the lock.
There are many good options on the market, including Abus, Medeco, Delswin and Stanley brands. They generally range in price from $40 to $200. The most common sizes are 1-3/4", 2" and 2-3/4". Ask your friendly Mini-Mac on-site manager for details and additional advice.
